More from the pits 2008

It's warmer today than it was back in October but the current snow and ice situation is making me loose my marbles.

The only good band to come from Ireland

Everyone else can suck it.

Ugh

I know I haven't been good at posting things here this week.....my brain has been a bit more mushy than usual.
In fact, if I had to guess what it looked like in there (my head)...I'd expect to see this right now:

The old silver and black

If silver and black is "The new green" then clearly green is "The old..."...oh...you know what I mean.
I was poking through some pictures when I noticed exactly how many I had of a friend's 65 GTO.
It's another one of those cars.
The cars with stories...the one's always "in the thick of it" In fact, some of my most often told stories involve this car.
It means nothing to you people, I know, but it's weird for me to look at these sometimes.

With the star of urban legend

Alongside my old Buick...there'll be more on that car one of these days.

This turned in to one of those nights.

I've always had a thing for stucco.

What'd I just say?
I don't know what is, I'm not even Italian.
I'm betting it might have something to do with my early exposure to New England Brickmaster commercials?
Whatever it is, stucco buildings always seem to jump out at me.
This one has for years.
It's across the street from the Bath House on Nantasket Beach (Hull, MA) & to be perfectly honest, I have no idea what the building was used for.
I'm assuming it's some kind of municipal building & I'm sure, again, with minimal internet sleuthing I can have all my questions answered.

One of the windows had a perfectly round hole in it, just big enough to zoom the camera's lens through for this one:

I'd only seen the front of the building for so long I was a little surprised to find all this going on out back:

The new green

I've been seeing more and more silver and black lately, which is OK I guess.
It sure beats the teal fad of the 90's.
Anyhow, one of these is mine & one is a picture I stole from the inter-tubes...most likely from the Jockey Journal.
I just wanted to see what they looked like near each other.

1-20-2009

I thought this day would never get here.
Now, I've said I'll never get too heavy here....and I don't spout off about politics too much anyhow...but I really can't believe what went down over the past 8 years.
I also can't believe we, as a country, let it happen.
The Boston Tea Party was touched off over less.
We should be ashamed of ourselves.

I do hope the candidate who ran "for change" is at least half-sincere, although I question anyone's motives for actually wanting the job.

The Inaugural.......Sale?!?!

Is this something new, or have I just never noticed companies using the swearing in of a President to sell things like mattresses or teeth whitening services?
This is acceptable?
I've always wondered what's wrong with someone who actually wants to be seen as the leader of this country, and here's another reason why.

2009 Boston World of WTF?

At the risk of sounding like every two-bit stand up comic out there, ever notice the different connotations "What the fuck?" can have?
Now, I realize it's semantics but the other night it seemed to be the most used phrase.
When I first stumbled across this:

I immediately thought, "What the fuck? This thing is awful!"
Then, maybe 15 feet away I run in to this thing:

And I thought, "What the fuck? This thing is awful.....and awesome!
Seriously.
This thing:

has my head spinning in so many different directions I'm liable to puke up a leopard print interior.
But this, THIS

is just beautiful.
Beautiful in the way only a drippy Corvette "Show Car" can be.

Now, I know I'm passing judgment here but something tells me the owner of the "Rat Rod" would probably get all pissy and start jumping up and down waving around a copy of "Poop Clodz" (Thanks R.f.) telling me I don't know what I am talking about, which is fine.
It would just provoke another "What the fuck?"
Probably with the same exasperated tone as when I couldn't get a God damned profile shot of this:

....and I tried.
I followed that guy around for a good half an hour!
The mullet isn't as easy to capture as it used to be, even at a car show.

Cain....

Bad ass song...er....bro.

Ahh....today's youth

Could someone please fill me in on the proper etiquette for dealing with these young people and their Star Trek communicators?
My first instinct when they are typing away on these things like Izzy Stone is to keep quiet.
I don't want to be rude. I'd hate to interrupt what is evidently an important uh...conversation?
I'm not even getting in to the whole "Time and place for everything" aspect of this.
These youths, and by "youths" I mean the 20somethings, have apparently lost their social graces.
It's not really their fault though.
I mean, they've been told they need all this technology and like good little sheep they comply.
Really, how did we ever live without it?

So, here's the post with "Why?" for a title

I told you it was coming...here it is.
Now, I can appreciate imports....I really can.
In fact, I'm not ruling out owning an Evo or WRX at some point in my life.
I know I'm risking "Kool Kid points" but seriously....cheap cars with an insane power to weight ratio that can handle?
Who wouldn't want that?
So, I don't mind seeing them at car shows...but these things?
C'mon!
As best I can tell they are just two-tone paint (that needed to be wet sanded & buffed by the way) and ugly wheels.
Am I missing something here?

The new green....you heard it here first.

Sunday, snow & I'm sick.

Here's a few of the more "reasonable" cars from the other night....and of course a special picture for the Brocktonians.
I'm trying to ignore the fact that I have some kind of fever and that there's some kind of snow accumulation.

2009 Boston World Of Meh....

Per tradition I went to "Set up" night at Boston's World of Wheels last night, even though the last time I ever set anything up in that show George Bush Sr. was president.
Now, I don't know if it's because this is the third "Last year in this location" or if the economy is to blame, but it was awfully quiet.
Sure, there were a few "usual suspects" but not like years past.
It was kind of weird.
Cars were dirty and just kind of "parked".
Not really what you'd expect for an indoor show.
Now, I know I can be a fussy prick but it seemed like people were just kind of phoning it in.
I did notice there's a lot of silver and black cars....so I guess that's "In" these days.
It's the new green.
Anyhow, my overall impression is the show is now a case study for the wrong wheel combination.
Who told these people 18" wheels and hardly any sidewall looks good?
Everything looks like a giant Hot Wheels.
Here's a few pictures of some of the decent stuff there.
I get the feeling any other pictures I post from last night are going to be under titles like, "Why?" and "WTF?"

Oh this is beautiful

Someone recently turned me on to FARK and this, this was posted yesterday.
It's old apparently, but I missed it the first time around.
It's just....just great.
(Beware of the language)

Urban legend star

Well, here's another inanimate object I'd like to hear talk.
The street races, the crazy burn outs, shifting in to third while doing donuts, the list goes on.
Some of this I've witnessed first hand, the rest has been corroborated.
Everyone seems to have their own story about this car.
Is it possible a 67 Camaro can be an actual, honest-to-goodness Hot Rod and not just another goober mobile muscle car?
This one can...no matter what the "Kool Kids" say.
There's so many things I associate this car with that I wish were still around & even more that I hope can come back around again.

These aren't so much "Before and after" pictures as they are "During and after"

Scratch that...call it "During and still" although I just realized the last picture is now 10 years old.

Boy....

For not having a job I've been kind of busy these last few days.
I have things to say & photos to post but for right now I'll just bore everyone with poorly taken pictures of badly built toy cars.

Two random observations

More things happen in the first 10 minutes of "Office Space" than in all of "The Departed" and "Drifting" is not any kind of "Motorsport".
Anything I can do on a barely plowed street in Brockton is not worthy of TV airtime.

Whole lotta nuthin....

I got nothing to add today unless you want me to ramble on about the motorcycle helmet that showed up yesterday.
Yes, the one I ordered back in June.
Anyhow, here's more motorcycle pictures from a time when the outside temperature was actually fit for humans.
