23 skiddoo!

So yeah, it looks like I'm gonna be a college man.
Me, "The World's Oldest Freshman".
I don't care about the social morays...I'm wearing a raccoon coat! (which is incredibly hard to find a picture of I will have you know)
Now I just have learn the Charleston, and how to play the ukulele, and find a flat brimmed hat, and a pennant and...and....and.....
I ate a live goldfish at the campus tour...I wanted to get it out of the way right off the bat.
Now, where's that Billy Lee Riley record?
(There's a dollar in it for whoever gets that reference)
I was looking for something entirely different
When I stumbled across this.
In my "Happy place" every girl dances like this.
Local boy done good.....

Lousy Gene Krupa wannabe
This past weekend I tried to "sort of" explain my "relationship" & views towards the instrument to someone....and I think they got it, although it didn't make me sound like any less of a loon.
I know a little of the history of this kit & kinda made up my own.
An owner's name is written in pencil on the inside of the snare...I really should look him up.
The signs are all there that it is a total "working man's" kit.
Late 40's Radio King with early 50's 22" Bass.
One can assume the owner got sick of lugging the huge bass that was common for the day.
It plays like a dream, sounds like a dream, feels like a dream..and that's not saying nearly enough.
A sound guy's nightmare.

Long term relationship
As near as I can figure I've had this kit for almost 15 years.
It's lasted longer than most women in my life.
Probably my most used, definitely the most repaired (and in setting it up again it seems it needs work...more work...sorta like owning an old motorcycle)1964 Slingerland.
20, 12, 14 & 14 white satin flame...or as a friend used to refer to it as "The hip shit"

15 year old Sharpie by Stan Kozlowski.

The Norm Wallace Roadster
Well, now that I figured out an easier way to upload photos there will probably be a lot more of this.
Here's quite possible my favorite hot rod of all time....the fact that its a local car is just coincidence.
Hot Rod Magazine cover car for September 1958:

Oddly, while sifting through a box of family pictures I came across another photo of this my father must have taken....I'm guessing late in the late 60's early 70's at an indoor car show, quite possibly at the Hynes Convention Center.
Damn...I gotta get my hands on a scanner.

OK, THIS is why
Collectively, as a generation, we suck.
Take a look at this picture I stole from Shorpy

What struck me about the picture isn't the androgynous baby fashion of the day (good Christ, please accept this as written permission to stab me in the face with a Space Pen if I ever say "androgynous baby fashion" again.....ever) but the simple fact that these kids of what? A year and a half? Two? (I've never been good at guessing ages, especially a baby's...and it doesn't help that all the white ones look the same)are sitting on a bench.
A plain, wooden bench.
No seat belts,no back support, no neck restraint, no child safety lock, no helmets, just a freakin' bench.
I'm sure the corners aren't even rounded...and look how high off the ground they are!!
My God!
What if one fell!
No one in their right mind would allow this to happen today....if they did they'd sure to be whisked off to jail under some child endangerment law and these kids would be put in to some stranger's home where, of course, they could be in danger.
That being said....its a good chance all these kids are dead now anyway.

Missinglink
I spent a lot of time here last night.
Go for the pictures, stay for the music...in particular "He's Waiting"....may be one of the best songs ever.
